Cheers to Green Whisky

WE'VE BEEN INSPIRED BY: Cheers to Green Whisky

A Scottish distillery is literally running under its own steam by converting waste material into energy to create green whisky.

Bruichladdich, a privately-owned distillery situated on Islay, the southernmost island of the Hebrides, has introduced an anaerobic digester to turn the messy by-products of malt whisky production into enough energy to power the distillery\, including the forklift trucks!

The waste, known as ‘pot ale’, was previously taken away every day by tanker, but is now digested by 12 tonnes of special microbes, converting into biogas which is then burned to create energy.

With Bruichladdich reducing its carbon footprint to almost zero by going green, how long will it be before more companies start putting ‘eco-hol’ on our shelves?
