Prizewinning PET
Back in September we brought you news of Coca-Cola France’s sustainable design competition, the Prix du Design Durable. In 2010, the €5,000 prize recognising a champion upcycling idea was won by Florie Salnot for her ‘Plastic Gold‘ jewellery, and now 2011’s equally worthy winner has been announced.
Designer Amandine Carrato Dia swiped the high-profile prize with her playful and practical creation – My Little PET – a fully functional lamp crafted from recycled wood and PET bottles that looks like an abstract puppy.
“I’ve seen too many bottle and plastic packaging abandoned in the city centre, on the roads, or worse, in the forest,” says Amandine. “It seemed obvious that these bottles deserve a second life, a reincarnation that would inform people of the power of respecting our planet – which is why I wanted the bottle to be recognisable in my design. My Little PET does not pretend it can change the world, but rather aims to awaken citizens to their ecological responsibilities.”
