Working Well with (RED)
Each day, more than 1,000 babies are born with HIV. By joining together with (RED), Coca-Cola hopes to help get that number down to nearly zero by 2015.
(RED) have been working since 2006 to channel money from the private sector to the Global Fund, the world’s leading supporter of programmes to fight HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Through this new collaboration with (RED), The Coca-Cola Company will commit more than $5 million over the next four years towards the goal of virtually eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV by 2015. $3 million will go directly to the Global Fund to raise awareness and buy critical anti-retroviral (ARV) medicine – which HIV-positive pregnant women can take to prevent spreading the virus to their babies.
This exciting partnership is the latest chapter in Coca-Cola’s longstanding history of involvement in HIV/AIDS issues throughout Africa, which is home to more than 60% of the world’s HIV-infected population and where the Coca-Cola system employs nearly 70,000 people.
