Focus on Football
In the year that all of Europe’s football fans will be focusing on Poland for UEFA EURO 2012, the Coca-Cola Cup has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to Polish football.
Coca-Cola Poland scooped ‘Patron of Youth Sports’ at the prestigious annual Sports Person of the Year gala in Warsaw, in recognition of organising and sponsoring the Coca-Cola Cup – the nation’s oldest and biggest youth football tournament.
“For 14 years, the Coca-Cola Cup has been promoting sports and activity among young people,” said Paul Woodward, Operations Director, North Central Europe, as he received the award. “So far, more than half a million competitors from across Poland have participated in the tournament.”
Fittingly, one of the potential stars of UEFA EURO 2012’s opening match – Poland and Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski – is himself a former Coca-Cola Cup competitor. Sounds like perfect inspiration for the 4,000 boys’ and girls’ teams from all over Poland that compete in the Coca-Cola Cup each year!
